Sugar Storm Relaunch
Sugar Storm’s first year was pretty wild. I never imagined running my own business but I have fallen in love with every aspect of it and I have learnt so much by making so many mistakes. Over the last few months I have picked apart all areas of Sugar Storm to find out what is working and what needs to change. I am laying the foundations now to be able to grow into what Sugar Storm is destined to become - a multifaceted company that empowers individuals to embrace their individuality and raise their voices.
First things first, Sugar Storm Clothing, will be known as just Sugar Storm going forward. Although I started as Sugar Storm Clothing, I mainly refer to it just as Sugar Storm, and for the bigger picture, it is fundamentally so much more than clothing, so there’s not much point it being there. For the benefit of social media handles, ‘clothing’ may stick around a bit longer but for the all encompassing project, we are Sugar Storm.
Products
The biggest change you’ll notice is probably in the products. Some of them have been discontinued, and all the remaining ones have been revamped. All illustrated designs have been redrawn - my skills and equipment has improved so much in the last year and I still love all the original designs so it only seemed right that I brought them up to standard. Some of them, like the Heartbreaker, have had minimal changes, while others like Smile More, look much more visibly different.
I have also changed t-shirt supply: the new shirts are softer, longer and slightly more fitted. This makes the print come out better, and in my opinion makes them much nicer to wear, a more comfortable feel and a more stylish fit. They do come up different in size to the previous style of tees so please check the new size chart before ordering - I personally have gone up a size to get the perfect fit for me.
Also, all tees now include fancy inside labels with important washing instructions to keep your print looking fresh. This may or may not be the thing I am most excited about.
What’s gone
Some products didn’t sell well, and some I wasn’t happy with the quality I was able to produce them at. I won’t compromise on quality, and some products just produced too much waste and too much stress. Some of the designs, including Beauty and Bees, and Sugar Storm Trooper will make a return in some form or another. I have plans for these which will be revealed shortly.
Unfortunately bandanas and wraps are also off the cards for the time being. I wasn’t able to continue producing them at the quality I wanted while keeping the price reasonable. I am currently working on some different options to get these back, because I absolutely loved them.
Lightning bolt necklaces and earrings will return shortly, I have slightly changed the making process to make them easier and faster to make, and also a produce a better final outcome.
The future
A big part of this reflection process has reminded me of the reason I started Sugar Storm in the first place - to inspire the outsiders. The clothing is one branch of that mission, it has always been so much more than clothing. So now I have the products up to the standard I’m happy with, I can start expanding on the future.
The first element of this will be a blog, covering creative advice and tutorials, art and music and empowerment and inspiration. Later this year it will expand into video tutorials and workshops, and events.
I also have plans for new product releases, which this year will focus on customisation and up-cycling. Continuing to work towards a sustainable practice, working with companies who align with those values and reducing the environmental impact of both Sugar Storm and my personal life. So sustainable producing and reusing are going to be at the forefront of the Sugar Storm products and content. For more details on Sugar Storm’s sustainability practice, please read my Sustainability Pledge.
The relaunch will start with new tees on the site, and the continued development of Sugar Storm will expand over the coming months. I hope you’re going to come along for the ride.
